Harcourts auctioneer to represent New Zealand
Harcourts auctioneer Phil McGoldrick has won the honour of representing New Zealand at the Australasian Real Estate Institutes’ Auctioneering Championships in Hobart later this year, having placed second in the Real Estate Institute of New Zealand (REINZ) National Real Estate Auctioneers Championship.
The successful Christchurch-based auctioneer, who averages around 500 property auctions each year, won REINZ’s national competition in 2006 and went on to become the first New Zealander to ever reach the finals of the Australasian championship.
This week, for the third year in a row, he was named the runner-up in the New Zealand championship – a result which will again see him represent his country alongside Auckland’s Mark Sumich who has won the New Zealand championship for the past three years and taken out the Australasian title for the past two.
In the real estate industry for 24 years, including 10 as an auctioneer, Mr McGoldrick was one of 15 Harcourts auctioneers in the 26-strong field who competed in the two-day REINZ event held in Auckland this week. Along with fellow Harcourts auctioneer Andrew North, who is based in North Shore City, he was one of just four to make the finals of the senior competition.
Mr McGoldrick says he is delighted to have the opportunity to again represent New Zealand in the hotly contested trans-Tasman auctioneering competition.
“It’s a great honour to represent Harcourts and my country, and of course it’s an excellent opportunity to continue to hone my skills and to learn from the esteemed, experienced auctioneers I will be competing against.”
Harcourts New Zealand Chief Executive Bryan Thomson says Mr McGoldrick’s consistent results at the national auctioneering championships prove he is one of the best in the business.
“As the annual event shows and as his satisfied customers and Harcourts colleagues know, Phil has the skills, style and knowledge required to achieve outstanding results in both competition and real life environments.
“He is exceptionally talented in this specialist field and a real asset to Harcourts both as an auctioneer and as National Auction Manager, a role which sees him training and mentoring the group’s nationwide network of auctioneers and managing Harcourts own annual auction championships.”
Congratulating all of the Harcourts auctioneers who competed in the REINZ National Real Estate Auctioneers Championship, Mr Thomson says Harcourts has a strong auction culture and makes a considerable investment in auction training to ensure it has a high-calibre team of professional auctioneers.
“Auctions are an excellent and effective method of sale and in recognition of this Harcourts has a strong focus on our auctioneers’ professional development and on educating our sales consultants about auctions too – resulting in Harcourts’ excellent track record of success with both property auctions and auctioneering competitions.”
Mr McGoldrick and Mr Sumich will go forward to represent New Zealand at the Australasian Real Estate Institutes’ Auctioneering Championships in Hobart, Tasmania on 1 - 2 September 2009.
