Refunds Could Boost Teenagers’ Bank Balance

School holidays are underway which is an ideal time for students who work to see if they are due a tax refund.

Managing Director of NZ Tax Refunds Cilla Hegarty says teenagers may not even realise they are owed a tax refund.

“The child rebate is $321 for those children under 15 years and for those who are under 19 and still at school for any part of the year. It really is worthwhile for any teenager who works to get in touch with us so we can apply for a refund on their behalf”, she says.

NZ Tax Refunds, New Zealand’s specialist online tax refund company, provides a no-risk service for clients. Its system assesses whether an individual is eligible for a tax refund and if so the company applies on their behalf. For secondary school students the maximum charge for this service is $25.

“It really is worth taking a couple of minutes to go online, fill out the form, or print a hard copy and post it to us.

“Around 85 percent of people who use our service find they are due a refund and for secondary school students it’s around 95 percent. If we don’t find you have a refund due, there’s no fee,” says Cilla Hegarty.

Chloe Jordan was at Papanui High School last year and is now studying travel and tourism at Sir George Seymour College. She has worked with NZ Tax Refunds over the past two years and says she has received fantastic service through the company.

“The system used by NZ Tax Refunds is very simple and user-friendly. I applied online for my tax refunds and I found it a very fast and effective way of doing things.

There was no paperwork involved and it really is such a simple option for students,” she says.

“I was absolutely thrilled when I got my tax refund. I didn’t go out and blow my windfall - I spent it on fixing my car!”
