Russell Investments expands NZ team

News Release

Russell Investments expands NZ team

August 12 2009 – Russell Investments is expanding its senior management team in New Zealand with the appointment of one of the financial services sector’s high flyers.

Andrew Johnson, who most recently has been the Head of Relationship Management at AMP Capital Investors, will join the team looking after Russell’s institutional clients throughout the country.

Russell’s New Zealand managing director Mark Blair says Andrew is highly regarded in the industry and his appointment is indicative of Russell’s determination to maintain its premier position in New Zealand.

“We have always and will continue to service our New Zealand clients with excellent people like Andrew, who have strong local knowledge backed by Russell’s renowned research capabilities and global expertise.”

Andrew Johnson says he is excited by the opportunity to work for Russell Investments.

“I wanted something that was both client facing, but also investment technical and this ticks both boxes,” he says. “Russell has leading edge tools and is the premier consultancy in NZ. I couldn’t be happier.”

With a BSc majoring in mathematics from Victoria University, Andrew says he naturally likes the technical aspect of the business. But he also enjoys people and that is evident from the roles he has had during his career.

Andrew has been in the financial services sector since 1981 and moved from National Mutual to Westpac Investment Management then to ANZ Funds Management. During that time he gained experience across the spectrum, including corporate superannuation, agency and project management and relationship management of wholesale investment clients.

In February 2001 he was appointed relationship manager of AMP Capital Investors and during that time completed his CFA charter and was appointed head of relationship management.

Andrew says the opportunity to join Russell’s NZ team also means he and his family are able to keep their home and interests in Wellington.
