Westpac New Zealand appoints Chief Risk Officer

Westpac New Zealand has appointed David Watts, formerly of NAB, to the role of Chief Risk Officer, subject to Reserve Bank of New Zealand having no objections.

Mr Watts, 46, will join Westpac New Zealand in October after a 17 year career with NAB Australia where he has held senior credit, risk and sales roles. He was recently Chief Risk Officer, Australian Region, which included business banking, retail banking, wealth management, and Asia.

Westpac New Zealand Chief Executive George Frazis says Mr Watts’ risk experience and expertise in all aspects of credit risk management will make him a valuable addition to Westpac New Zealand’s executive team.

“Credit risk management is pivotal to banking and Mr Watts’ appointment will help Westpac New Zealand build on its continuing focus on working with its customers to achieve positive outcomes in a challenging economic environment,” Mr Frazis said.

Mr Watts will replace Royce Brennan who has been appointed General Manager Risk for BT Financial Group, based in Australia.
