Negotiations break down at NZ Post ECL – workers start industrial action
Negotiations at New Zealand Post’s largest subsidiary, ECL, have broken down and workers have voted for industrial action says the Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union
The industrial action, which has begun with a work-to-rule in Wellington and Christchurch, follows the company’s refusal to negotiate a fair pay claim.
EPMU national postal and logistics organiser Anna Kenny says members are determined to have their claims heard.
“Industrial action is never an easy choice but ECL have refused to listen to our members’ claims and our members have decided to give the company a wake-up call.
“Despite the recession ECL is a profitable company and our members have worked with them in the past to make sure of that, now it’s their turn to share in the gains.
“In the five years we’ve dealt with ECL this is the first time our members have ever had to take industrial action and it’s disappointing it has had to come to this now.”
The EPMU represents more than 800 workers at ECL which is New Zealand Post’s main courier and logistics subsidiary.
