Navman Wireless Wins Recognition For R&D Excellence

Hard on the heels of recent international successes, Navman Wireless won home-town recognition at the 2009 Westpac Enterprise North Shore Business Excellence Awards. The company took away the Eco Insulation Award for Excellence in Design, Research and Development for its GPS-based vehicle tracking and fleet management software application – OnlineAVL2, developed for the global transport, utility and service industries. There were more than 150 entries for the awards, now in their twelfth year.

All Navman Wireless products are designed and supported by a team of 45 research and development engineers based at the company’s Northcote office, along with 8 further engineers in Silicon Valley.

Tracking over 100,000 vehicles worldwide, the company is recognised internationally as an innovator and industry leader. Two months ago its OnlineAVL2 real-time fleet tracking and management system was honoured at the prestigious 2009 Telematics Awards gaining the runner up award for the Best Telematics Service & Application for Commercial Vehicles, beating out nine other finalists including Garmin, Qualcomm, NetworkFleet, Sagequest and TomTom.

“While we enjoy our international successes, there’s a special pleasure in being honoured in our own country,” says Ian Daniel, the Auckland-based Vice President Asia Pacific and Latin America for Navman Wireless.

Last month Telecom announced that it had signed a new open-ended contract for Navman Wireless to provide the technology for Telecom’s Locate+ vehicle management and fleet tracking offering.
