BNZ “Closed for Good” is open to suggestions!
A lot of organisations give their staff a day off now and then for volunteer work. This November, BNZ is taking this a step further, by closing the bank for a day.
It’s called Closed for Good. On 4 November, BNZ stores and offices will be closed for one day, and around 5000 BNZ staff will be out in their communities, working on projects nominated by the towns and cities they live in.
What kind of projects? That’s entirely up to you! Because BNZ is about helping New Zealanders be better off, they’re looking for project ideas that will make their local communities better off too. This could be anything from cleaning up a local beach or stream, taking the dogs for a walk at the SPCA, giving the school grounds a good spruce-up…. Closed for Good is completely open to suggestions.
And that’s where you come in. BNZ is collecting ideas for community projects to work on at closedforgood.org from now until 27 September. If you have a project that needs a hand (or a hundred), take a look at the site and post your idea online. In early October the BNZ team will contact everyone who applies to let them know which projects they’ve chosen. Even if you’re not sure about submitting a project right now, registering at closedforgood.org will make sure you get updates about what’s happening. If you use Twitter, you can follow at twitter.com/closedforgood
If you are thinking about submitting a project to Closed for Good, remember that BNZ is providing labour only. So if your project involves painting or gardening, for example, you’ll need to provide the paint and any tools the BNZ team will need.
Note: If you’re a BNZ customer and you’re wondering how to do your banking on the day – don’t worry! Internet banking will still be open for business as usual, and a team will be staying back to man the phones for telephone banking. BNZ will also be in touch with customers closer to the time to let them know what other backup plans will be in place.
