Success for Tauranga Software Start Up

MEDIA RELEASE

International Success for Tauranga Software Start Up

Tauranga-based company Pingar LP, has developed an intelligent search and publishing platform that revolutionises Internet searches.

The Kiwi company is now setting up business in Swansea in the United Kingdom assisted by UK Trade & Investment’s Global Entrepreneurs programme, which provides advice for kiwi companies and connects them with the right contacts in the UK.

Pingar’s Tauranga based Director Peter Wren-Hilton says the company grew ‘because of my personal frustration. There is so much irrelevant information on the internet and to try to filter this is becoming much more complex. I thought ‘there has to be a better way’ and Pingar grew out of this.’

Rather than presenting users with a list of links, the Pingar platform goes inside the links, finds the content the user is seeking, extracts and summarises that content and then places it into a dynamically generated PDF or XPS document. The whole process takes seconds.

Pingar is now moving in the technology industry’s top circles with a recent partnership formed between the company and Microsoft. Pingar is the only New Zealand company to be selected for Microsoft’s Start-up Accelerator programme, which is designed to accelerate the growth potential of selected global start-up companies.

Mr Wren-Hilton says that his UK background and existing contacts made it easier to get a foothold in the UK. While there are plans for Pingar to expand to other international markets Mr Wren-Hilton is confident that Pingar will keep its base in New Zealand.

University incubators have played an important part in Pingar’s success. In the UK Pingar collaborates with the University of Swansea while in New Zealand Pingar works with WaikatoLink, University of Waikato’s computer science incubator. Mr Wren-Hilton says that working with university incubators has given the company ‘access to the right skill set.’
