IAB Insight Report Q2 2009

These are the top line findings from the IAB Insight Report of online ad spend in the second quarter of 2009. They show that marketers continue to invest in interactive media formats, as they know they can better measure and mange the effectiveness of their advertising.

Total Market

This quarter reported one of the highest ever spends - $52.49m. The Moving Annual Total is now at an all time high of $199.8m. Growth continues: spend on internet advertising grew 5.53% from the same quarter in 2008, and is up 6.55% from last quarter. Industry sources suggest that all other major media revenues dropped again in Q2.

The television industry does publish its data*, and television advertising revenue for the first half of 2009 was reported at $257.1 million, a drop of 13.3% from the $296.5 million achieved in the first half of 2008. The equivalent figure for interactive is an increase of 7.00% for the first half of 2009 over first half of 2008 (and a growth of 10.5% in Display advertising which is more directly comparable to TV). *Source NZTBC Television advertising follows recessionary trend’ - Published: Aug 10, 2008

Online represented 8.3% of all adspend in 2008, and given the current trends this share will have increased in Q2 2009. We expect it to exceed 10% for the full 2009 year. Download PDF of the IAB Insight Report
