Forest and wood industries welcome PGP initiative

Forest owners and wood processors have welcomed the government’s commitment to the Primary Growth Partnership.

“Our industries already have a clear development strategy underway and look forward to working with the government as we take it to new levels,” says Woodco chair Doug Ducker.

“The contributions made by forestry and wood processing to New Zealand’s economy, environment and society go way beyond the economic value that can be captured by the businesses involved. We therefore have a common interest with the government and all New Zealanders in having our sector realise its full potential.

“This is reflected in the principle of co-funding which has the support of all major forest and wood processing sector groups.”

He says Woodco is now evaluating the eligibility criteria released by the government today, but initial impressions are favourable.
“We also recognise the high calibre of the members of the investment advisory panel and this gives us confidence in the road ahead.”
