Holidaymakers warm to concept of a seaside vacation before summer arrives
Long
recognised as a summer mecca for holidaymakers, Papamoa
Beach, in the sunny Bay of Plenty, is proving a magnet for
Kiwis seeking a mid-winter break.
The operators of the long-established Papamoa Beach Top 10 Holiday Resort take some of the credit for this. They claim their 'Mid-Winter Deal', which offers sharp discounts for short-term stays in their seaside villas, has done a lot to put Papamoa Beach on the map as a winter-time holiday destination.
As part of the initiative, guests who stay three or more nights in one of the beautifully appointed villas are not charged for their last night. This mid-winter offer has proven so popular it has been extended into spring and will continue until October 30.
Papamoa Beach Top 10 administration manager, Rebecca Crosby, puts the resort's growing popularity as a mid-winter destination down to a number of things – not just the discounts currently on offer.
“After four decades meeting the needs of holidaymakers, we've developed a reputation as a friendly, fun-filled, family-oriented facility,” she says. “The loyal families who return here year after year understand the attractions and activities the resort and the area have to offer are not limited to summer.”
Rebecca points out that Papamoa normally experiences some of its best weather in winter.
“People don't realise that many of our promotional photos depicting sun, sand and surf are taken during the winter months.”
As part of the resort's Mid-Winter Deal, guests have their choice of staying in one of seven different unit-styles which cater for between two and six people. These range from modern basic cabins to luxury beachfront villas. Some have sea views, some don't, but even those that don't are literally only a stone's throw from the water's edge.
At $165 a night, three nights in one of the luxurious Studio Spa Garden Villas would normally cost $495. Under the Mid-Winter Deal, it would only cost $330. These villas include a comfortable, queen-size bed, spacious lounge and dining area, fully equipped kitchen and Sky TV, as well as a superb bathroom with shower and top-of-the-range spa bath. Centrally located, they overlook beautifully landscaped grounds and cater for a maximum of two people. They offer a wonderful choice of accommodation, especially for couples who like to indulge a little while on holiday.
The brand new two-bedroom Garden Villas offer a great choice of accommodation for guests who appreciate that extra bit of comfort while on holiday. These cater for a maximum of five people and are also located amidst landscaped grounds.
The master bedroom features a queen-size bed and a 21in Sky TV. A second bedroom has one set of bunks and a single bed, and the bathroom is modern and equipped with a luxurious double-headed shower. An open plan lounge, dining area and kitchen are spacious and stylishly furnished. There's room in the lounge for guests to spread out and watch the 32in plasmas with Sky TV, and large decks off the lounge provide great indoor/outdoor living.
For those who like a little more luxury, the Beachfront Villas offer just that. All the luxury villas have large decks facing the ocean and are especially designed to take advantage of the spectacular views. These villas have a queen-size bed plus a separate bedroom with two single beds. The toilet, shower and kitchen facilities are comfortable and practical. Tastefully furnished, they have a plasma TV with Sky Television and cater for up to four people.
At $200 a night, three nights in one of the Beachfront Spa Villas would normally cost $600. Under the Mid-Winter Deal, it would only cost $400. These villas, which cater for two people, also have large ocean-facing decks and come with queen-size bed, fully equipped kitchen, and luxury bathroom with a shower and spa bath. Rooms are tastefully furnished and there's a plasma TV with Sky Television in the spacious living area. A Taka day bed or chaise lounge is positioned just so – for those lazy afternoons with a book.
There are other options available also for anyone interested in a mid-winter break.
It seems word is spreading fast that Papamoa Beach Top 10 is not just a summer-time destination and the salt air, seaside activities, coastal attractions and panoramic sea views remain year-round. And as the only real beachfront complex in Papamoa, it provides everything needed for that real New Zealand beach holiday.
Papamoa Beach Top 10 is also making new caravan sites – appropriately called 'Weekender sites' – available for holidaymakers wanting to leave their caravans on-site. Eight additional sites will be available under a 12-month arrangement from October 1.
Given the scarcity of vacant caravan sites on the popular Mt Maunganui-Papamoa coastal strip, they are expected to be snapped up quickly.
The resort welcomes enquiries about its 'Weekender sites' and its 'Mid-Winter Deal'. Further information is available on the resort's website at www.papamoabeach.co.nz
