Frizzell wine scoops Gold in New Zealand
International Wine Show
Renowned New Zealand artist Dick Frizzell has claimed Gold for his Frizzell Hawkes Bay Merlot 2007 in the 2009 New Zealand International Wine Show, held in Auckland this month.
The award-winning wine is part of Frizzell’s limited edition wine series, produced with top wine consultant Rod McDonald and released this year.
“I couldn’t be happier that my Merlot has won Gold after competing against over 2,000 wines in the country’s largest wine competition. It’s testament to my strong team who have all worked extremely hard to make sure I get things right,” says Dick Frizzell.
The award-winning Merlot is one of Frizzell’s limited edition releases. Each bottle in the Frizzell range is individually hand numbered and bears an exclusive label for each vintage designed by Dick Frizzell in his distinctive style.
Frizzell wines are made from top-quality New Zealand grapes and produced in limited edition runs. The wines – like Frizzell’s artworks – have become sought-after collectors’ items.
Frizzell’s next release is a new limited edition vintage of Hawkes Bay Pinot Gris 2009 which will be on sale next month.
“I am delighted how well my wines have been received and I only hope people enjoy the Pinot Gris as much as I have enjoyed developing it – it’s the perfect wine for summer,” says Frizzell.
The move into producing wines is a perfect segue for Frizzell, who started his career in advertising before embarking on a full-time career as an artist. It was when he moved back to the Hawkes Bay six years ago that he become captivated by the wine market and decided he wanted to be part of it.
Just 420 cases of the award-winning Merlot are still available. The Frizzell Pinot Gris will be available to buy from late October at New Zealand’s finest restaurants and online at www.frizzellwines.co.nz.
