LAKE WANAKA, New Zealand (October 13, 2009) – Wanaka Edge Apartments, one of the resort town’s most highly rated self-catering accommodation choices, is being given a fresh look by an experienced manager familiar to many in the New Zealand travel industry.

Trevor Blockley, operations manager of Wanaka’s luxury Edgewater Resort for the last nine years, now manages Wanaka Edge on behalf of the apartment owners.

Trevor is a well-known face in the accommodation scene. Prior to his role at Edgewater, he spent ten years running his own business providing services to the accommodation industry in Wellington and before this he established the Plaza International, now the Buxton, in the capital.

He is now focused full-time on managing and promoting Wanaka Edge Apartments as some of the town’s most distinctive self-contained accommodation. Improvements are already underway with a garden courtyard and BBQ area beside the existing spa pool. This will create a sunny communal area where guests can mix during their stay.

“It’s an exciting time to be going it alone again and I’m enjoying the variety of work at Wanaka Edge. My experience in the industry has given me a good understanding of the demands of both the travel trade and visitors themselves and I’m looking forward to developing more ideas to take the business forward,”said Trevor.

“Our typical guests at Wanaka Edge are business people and families either passing through on a whistle-stop tour of the south, or spending a week or so here and making the most of the activities on offer.

“The winter season has been very busy with strong demand from the Australian market in particular. I expect that to continue into spring and summer, as tourists look for good value closer to home and Wanaka’s growing reputation as a year-round resort continues to attract international visitors,” he said.

Opened in 2006, Wanaka Edge has a 5-star New Zealand tourism Qualmark rating for self-contained and serviced accommodation. It consists of 26 well-appointed units in stylish modern décor and fitted with the latest amenities, including full kitchens, flat-screen TVs and DVD players.

The apartments’ location is perfect for both families and corporate guests – quiet with off-street parking and next to a gym complex but only ten minutes’ walk from the shops, cafes and restaurants of Wanaka town centre and its magnificent lakefront.

Wanaka Edge is also targeting corporate businesses. Two larger corner units can be converted into conference rooms for up to 15 people with catering facilities and accommodation in other units as required.
