Planning for Community Futures

‘The longer you wait for the future, the shorter it will be’

Gareth Moore-Jones

Gareth will give an overview of why the next generation (this means you if you are under 20!) is being called ‘The wild-card generation’, how an understanding of future possibilities can help in planning for communities, how the ‘small world’ will become big again and a brief glimpse into ‘careers of the future’.

Gareth Moore-Jones is Director Ideaus Ltd (http://http://www.ideaus.co.nz) a ‘Thinking Futures’ consultancy based at Ohope Beach. He is also Founding Director of Global Leisure Group Ltd established in 2000 (http://www.glgnz.co.nz) which was established to provide recreation, sport, open-space and community planning advice in a trans-Tasman context. Gareth is a Board member of FTA, a Board member of the New Zealand Recreation Association and a Trust member for the HEHA National Network Establishment Board (NEB).

Over the last decade Gareth has been working with agencies such as territorial authorities, Universities, DHBs and not-for-profits trusts on planning their contribution to community and is well-versed in matters of long-term planning, community outcomes and bridging the gap between ‘want’ and ‘resource’. Gareth has also worked extensively with local clubs, RSO’s and Sports Trusts both project specific and helping to build internal capacity. Recently Gareth has introduced coaching/mentoring to his business to help share his skills and experience.
