Ratings Surge for Campbell Live And
Sunrise
A strong October saw Campbell Live win back Auckland viewers, while Sunrise enjoyed record audience numbers.
A boost in viewership throughout October saw Campbell Live win back the 18-49 Auckland audience, growing its share to 16.2%, well ahead of Close Up’s 14.0% share in the same demographic. TV3’s 7pm current affairs programme, which welcomed new producer Pip Keane on board last month, grew its share of viewership across all major demographics in October, winning the key 18-49 Auckland Urban and 18-49 Metropolitan (5 City) categories.
October was Sunrise’s highest rating month to-date in the key 18-49, 18-39, 25-54, and 18-49 Auckland Urban demographics. High points included Wednesday, 8 October, when the programme recorded a massive 32.7% share of the 18-49 Urban Auckland audience during the Sunrise Stuck on Suzuki competition and Friday, 16 October, when Sunrise peaked in the 18-49 Auckland demographic with a 39.2% share.
3 News had another stellar month, with an audience share of 34.5% in the all important 18-49 demographic, well ahead of One News at 27.7%.
“From the beginning of the month, where a Tsunami caused widespread devastation for our neighbours, friends and family in Samoa, and the tragic loss of Aisling Symes saw one family’s personal tragedy shared by all Kiwis, to the recent revelations of Destiny Church’s cult-like behaviour, October was a very big month for news,” says TV3 Director of News and Current Affairs, Mark Jennings.
“Our reporters, presenters, and crew have been on the ground throughout the month, bringing New Zealanders the best possible coverage, including exclusive breaking news,” he said.
“It is fantastic to see New Zealanders turning to TV3, throughout the day, for the very best coverage of the most important news stories.”
TV3’s late night news programme, Nightline, also increased its audience last month. Nightline boosted its 18-49 Auckland Urban share by 10.3%, and now has a share of 26.9%, more than twice as large the 12.1% share recorded by TV One’s Tonight programme. Nightline’s audience share outstripped Tonight’s in all key demographics, in October.
