Hong Kong Agreement Excellent News for NZ economy

Hong Kong Agreement Excellent News for New Zealand Economy

The Wellington Regional Chamber of Commerce has welcomed the conclusion of a Free Trade Agreement with Hong Kong - New Zealand’s ninth such agreement (excluding PACER).

“Following on from last week’s conclusion of the Gulf Cooperation Council FTA, today’s announcement brings excellent news for exporters and the economy as a whole,” said Chamber CEO Charles Finny.

“Hong Kong is an important market for New Zealand exports and this agreement will expand the FTA footprint into greater China.

“We welcome the FTA’s focus on services particularly education. This is an increasingly important sector for Wellington and New Zealand generally.

“The MoUs on wine and film are also exciting developments for business in the wider Wellington region.

“This negotiation has taken many years. I would like to congratulate Trade Minister Tim Groser for his leadership, and chief negotiator Julian Ludbrook and his team for the successful outcome of this phase in the negotiations,” Mr Finny concluded.
