Warehouse industrial strategy released

Press Release: National Distribution Union

Warehouse industrial strategy released

Warehouse workers have endorsed creative industrial action to raise awareness with customers and the public about the deteriorating conditions at The Warehouse.

Workers have this morning voted for protests, strikes, leafleting and other actions in support of their demands for more staff and better working conditions. Workers at The Warehouse in Botany Downs have taken industrial action today, and those workers who can’t legally take action are supporting them.

National Distribution Union (NDU) organiser Simon Oosterman says the campaign will include a website that will be launched before Christmas where team members can anonymously post stories about the deteriorating conditions.

“The Warehouse is refusing to listen to staff,” he says. “The company claims that 98% of staff support their restructuring proposals called Project Invigorate, but workers overwhelmingly reject that claim.”

Mr Oosterman says that in recent bargaining the company refused to agree to a review of Project Invigorate and workloads and dismissed workers’ stories about staffing levels and stress.

The Warehouse has a history of targeting workers who speak out, Simon Oosterman says.

Yesterday The Warehouse threatened to fire a worker for talking to the media about staff crying during restructuring at the company.
