NZB First Singapore Group Contest on Polytrack
NZB Grabs First Singapore Group Contest on Polytrack
The versatility of the kiwi-bred gained further traction at Singapore on Friday night when Stephen Gray's Goldschatz won the country's first ever Group race on the increasingly common polytrack surface.
On the nine-race card, the win was one of six for New Zealand gallopers, with four having graduated through the Karaka sales ring. Goldschatz (Pins x Centri Belle, by Centaine) was amongst these when he fetched $12,000 at New Zealand Bloodstock's 2005 Spring Mixed Bloodstock Sale.
Now with Stephen Gray, the six-year-old took out the S$175,000 Sing-3 Proinn Construct Stakes (1700m) by a length over Bumble Bee (Bertolini), with Vlad Duric navigating through a checked path in the home straight.
With the all-weather synthetic track designed to reduce the injuries, Goldschatz secured his first victory on the surface at his fourth attempt.
Now the winner of five races for his German owner, Stephan Herzog, Goldschatz has earned S$330,000 in prize-money and is another smart galloper produced on the Pins/Centaine cross responsible for 15% stakes-winners to runners including Group 1 winners Legs and Econsul.
Pins, who currently sits in fourth position on the Singapore General Sires List, will be represented by 61 yearlings at Karaka 2010 in February, with 45 in Premier including halves to Group 1 winners Alamosa (Lot 22), Allez Wonder (Lot 30), Perlin (Lot 48), and Imananabaa (Lot 451).
In 2007 Pins was also chosen as the mate for Group 1 winning mares Pernod (Lot 91) and Bazelle (Lot 288) and their resulting progeny will represent the high class mares at Karaka 2010.
