Gull Spreads Wings With Record Biofuel Sales

Gull Spreads Its Wings With Record Biofuel Sales
Record December and 2009 for Biofuel Sales

Oil industry independent Gull New Zealand announced today that December was a record month for biofuel sales, capping the best year yet for biofuel sales in New Zealand.

Dave Bodger, General Manager of Gull New Zealand says that 40 per cent of all Gull petrol now sold has biofuel content.

“In two and a half years the transformation to biofuel blends has been fantastic for Gull. Customers enjoy the lower prices and the environment benefits from reduced vehicle greenhouse gas emissions from a biofuel that is sustainably produced.

“Gull sells an average of two per cent biofuel of total fuel sales by energy content, double the previous government’s biofuels sales obligation. Despite the critics, the success of Gull’s biofuels proves that biofuel can be commercially produced and sold in New Zealand,” says Bodger.

To mark the success of Gull’s record biofuel sales Gull will lower all biofuel grades by 6c per litre from 7am on Thursday 28 January until 10am Friday 29 January.

Tomorrow’s pump prices at service stations where Gull set the price are:

Regular Plus (91 Octane) $1.639
Force 10 (98 Octane) $1.779

Prices at the drive though (unmanned) sites will be even lower than this.

Gull launched New Zealand’s first biofuel, Gull Force 10, a 98 octane 10 per cent ethanol blend fuel in August 2007. Regular Plus, a 10 per cent 91 Octane blend, followed a year later. All Gull branded service stations stock Gull Force 10 as the premium grade fuel and eight sites currently sell Regular Plus. Both fuels invariably retail at lower prices than the comparable octane of competitor outlets.
