SBS Bank team gets their sleeves rolled up

If there is a community event to support, the team at SBS Bank Queenstown are happy to get stuck in and a busy start to their community partnerships is ensuring 2010 is launching with a bang.

Summer sporting events are at their peak and SBS Bank Queenstown manager Patricia Muir said she and her team were delighted to be partnering so many sports and recreational organisations with their events over the coming weeks.

“As New Zealand’s only customer-owned bank, SBS Bank as been getting right behind its local community for more than 140 years and we know the local schools, clubs and community groups really create the foundations of our community well-being.

“That’s why we’re always eager to partner, nurture and support them in any way possible. It will often see our team out and about with the sleeves rolled up, cranking up the barbecue at different community events – who knows where you’ll spot us next,” Ms Muir said.

SBS Bank is delighted to be the principal sponsor of the Queenstown Bowling Club’s SBS Business House Bowls, with 32 teams entered from various companies in Queenstown already well into their six-week series.

This weekend the Wakatipu Yacht Club will be hosting the Wakatipu SBS Dinghy Regatta, starting from 9am on Saturday.

“We’re really excited for the Wakatipu Yacht Club this month because they have just won $1000 through our SBS Star monthly prize draw that offers 10 chances to win $1000. Being the only New Zealand bank with a banking package like SBS Star, which has been specifically developed to suit the needs of non-profit organisations, is absolutely fantastic.

“Our local non-profits have benefited from more than $12,000 being pumped back into their coffers through our SBS Star Banking Package – we’ve also relaunched a limited edition SBS Star Investment Special - this allows investors to nominate a Star account when they make a new investment between now and 31 March and SBS Bank will give their nominated club a bonus payment in April.”

Wakatipu Yacht Club treasurer Annabel Riley said their success in the latest SBS Star prize draw couldn't have come at a better time for them.

“We have just carried out some urgent repair work to the decking of one of the yacht club wharves and the $1000 has now enabled us to complete this work. The facilities at the club are used not only by our members, but the wider community, so maintenance work like this can be a strain on the club finances.”

“It’s going to be terrific to see the new work being used and appreciated by so many keen and eager entrants and supporters during our upcoming SBS Dinghy Regatta. It is always a great day and so fantastic to see so many youngsters displaying their skills on Lake Wakatipu.”

Ms Muir said the upcoming community events would also include the two-day SBS Bank Ladies Classic Golf Invitation, involving 62 pairs and being held at Kelvin Heights on February 15 and 16.

“We’re thrilled to be able to get amongst the community doing what SBS Bank does best – supporting our local clubs, societies, and non profit organisations through sponsorship and participation. We have an exciting year ahead look forward to doing what we do best – supporting the local community.”
