Toyota New Zealand Quantifies Local Impact Of International Vehicle Recall
Toyota New Zealand says it has quantified the impact of the international vehicle recall on its New Zealand fleet and can confirm it is limited to 61 units of the European-manufactured Avensis model – a small number of the 700,000 Toyota vehicles on New Zealand’s roads.
Toyota New Zealand chief executive Alistair Davis says the recall has his team’s full attention as they work to find solutions for affected customers.
“I would like to reassure our customers that we take our responsibilities as a manufacturer seriously and will do whatever it takes to solve this issue.
“Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted directly by Toyota tomorrow and any faults will be corrected at our expense,” says Alistair Davis.

“Trust is earned car-by-car and customer-by-customer; the public confidence in our brand is not something we take for granted.

Toyota New Zealand’s general manager of after sales, Paul Carroll, says all other Toyota models sold new in New Zealand, as well as all used imports from Japan, were unaffected by the recall as the accelerator pedal used on these models was sourced from a different manufacturer.
“The risk of any owner encountering a problem is very small – across the whole of Europe only 26 owners reported a problem and there were no accidents resulting from the issue.”
