Hawke’s Bay represented at Aussie wine event

9 February 2010

Media release

Hawke’s Bay represented at Aussie wine event

Hawke’s Bay’s finest wines will be lining up against others from around New Zealand at this country’s largest wine event being held in Australia, our most significant export market.

Lyn Bevin, Executive Officer from Hawke’s Bay’s regional wine organisation, will be representing the region and the local wines that have been selected to showcase the skills of our winemakers and the quality of our wines.

“This is the first time we will be presenting our regional story at NZ Winegrowers’ largest trade and consumer events in Australia. Our regional story will be supported with wines that illustrate just how fantastic we can be,” Ms Bevin said.

“This event has a growing consumer element where Hawke’s Bay’s wines can offer a full range of styles at commercial price points.”

Carrying the Hawke’s Bay banner are a dozen wines, all award winners and previously selected by a stringent regional selection process instigated by Hawke’s Bay Winegrowers Inc.

A consignment of 72 bottles of wine and promotional material was shipped in December for the events.

The annual sold-out event is organised by New Zealand Winegrowers and attracts over 1000 wine trade and media during each day-long programme. Consumers are admitted each evening.

Ms Bevin will be using the events to also promote the Hot Red Hawke’s Bay red wine road show that will be venturing across the Tasman for the first time in July this year.

An annual event organised by HBWG, Hot Red Hawke’s Bay wine tasting events have been held in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch for the past five years and attract hundreds of wine trade, media and discerning wine consumers.

This year already 22 Hawke’s Bay wineries have committed to travel to Melbourne and Sydney to provide Australian wine trade, media and consumers a chance to sample local red wines and meet the respective winemakers.

Venture Hawke’s Bay is also joining the international wine expo to take advantage of the strong interest in wine tourism for the region.

“There is growing interest in Australia for Hot Red Hawke’s Bay. Advertising is yet to begin and we’ve already had several trade registrations. Visitors we have hosted from the Australian market have always shown a lot of interest in this event here and have been keen for us to bring it to their cities and the consumers,” Ms Bevin said.

Hot Red Hawke’s Bay will also be making its annual appearance in Wellington, Auckland and Christchurch from 15 to 17 June, starting in the South Island and heading north.
