BNZ announces no excess payments for burglary claims
Individuals who purchase SelectaDNA, a new theft deterrent, alongside their BNZ insurance policy and use it to mark their personal property will no longer need to pay a standard excess if they make a home burglary claim*.
SelectaDNA is an invisible solution which contains a unique DNA sequence and can be applied to almost anything, including laptops, play stations, jewellery, flat screen TVs or even art work and then registered to the individual. If the item is then stolen, Police can identify the owner through a “DNA test” or through microdots visible under a microscope.
Mark Stephen, Chief Operating Officer - Insurance, at BNZ says: “We are confident that the combined use of SelectaDNA, and the ‘you steal, you’re marked’ warning stickers, will significantly reduce the number of burglaries seen in New Zealand.
“Customers need to mark their belongings with the invisible solution, register their kit, and display the SelectaDNA stickers on their house,” continues Stephen.
David Morrissey, Director, at SelectaDNA says: “This technology which is new to New Zealand has already proven itself in the UK and Holland by reducing burglary by up to 85% in areas where it has been used.
“A trial is currently underway in Auckland and we look forward to announcing the results shortly,” Morrissey says.
This is a joint initiative between BNZ and SelectaDNA, and is only available by purchasing a home and/or contents insurance policy from BNZ stores nationwide.
Individual kits, without the insurance package, can also be bought from any BNZ store for $100.
