Competitive Offer For Christchurch Energy Consumer
New Competitive Pricing Offer For Christchurch Energy Consumers
Competition in the retail electricity sector in Christchurch heated up this week with a new competitive pricing offer from Genesis Energy for customers in the city.
The electricity generator/retailer has reduced its tariffs for existing customers and has launched a sales and marketing campaign targeting electricity and LPG consumers in Christchurch. Prices for Genesis Energy’s existing Christchurch customers will drop, depending on which plan the customer is on, between 7.3 and 10.5%.
Christchurch residential customers on the Genesis Energy Household Composite tariff using around 9,000KwH per year would be better off by $180 per annum if they moved from Meridian to Genesis Energy. Contact Energy customers would also be better off by around $165 per year if they switched to Genesis Energy.
Genesis Energy General Manager Retail, Dean Carroll, said the widely advertised price offer was a clear demonstration that competition is alive and well in the electricity market. The company recently made a competitive pricing offer to Dunedin and Queenstown energy consumers. The new low price for Christchurch customers will be fixed until July 2011. Customers who switch to Genesis Energy before 30 June will also receive 5,000 Brownie Points (redeemable points in Genesis Energy’s customer loyalty programme).
“With the likely ownership of two South Island hydro-electric stations ahead of us, Genesis Energy is keen to share the competitive benefits of having a new generator-retailer in the region with South Island consumers,” Mr Carroll said.
As well as offering cheaper power, Genesis Energy is also offering Christchurch customers who use LPG for heating and cooking a sharp deal by providing a free annual rental of an LPG bottle, worth around $100 per annum.
Customers wishing to take up Genesis Energy’s competitive pricing can do so by grabbing their latest power bill and making one phone call to 0800 110 000 or visiting genesisenergy.co.nz/Christchurch.
