Cathay Pacific Resumes Normal Services to Europe
With the re-opening of airports and airspaces in Europe, Cathay Pacific Airways has announced that it plans to resume normal schedule of services to and from Europe from this morning (22 April).
The airline is doing its utmost to bring stranded passengers to their destinations as soon as possible. Cathay Pacific was able to operate nine flights from Hong Kong to Europe and three flights from Europe to Hong Kong yesterday and overnight, carrying more than 4,000 passengers. However, the airline expects it could take weeks to clear the backlog.
Cathay Pacific has arranged two more additional flights from London to Hong Kong, taking the total number of extra flights to four. Subject to government approval and crew availability, Cathay Pacific plans to upgrade a total of 29 pairs of flights to London and Rome to larger aircraft, providing an additional 2,900 seats. Also planned are two pairs of extra flights to a European point still to be determined on the basis of slot availability.
Passengers holding confirmed reservations from New Zealand to the UK or Europe are advised to check in as normal – either on-line or at the airport. Passengers are also to recommended to check www.cathaypacific.co.nz for up to the minute flight information.
Passengers who do not have confirmed bookings are strongly advised not to go the airport as acceptance of standby passengers at airport is not likely.
Because of the big backlog at Hong Kong, dedicated zones are set up for different groups of passengers at Hong Kong International Airport in order for the airline to offer quick and smooth check-in for passengers with confirmed bookings and the airline appeals to passengers to follow advice from the airline staff.
Passengers without confirmed bookings should contact Cathay Pacific Reservation number – 09 379 0861 within Auckland or 0800 800 454 (outside Auckland) for booking and ticketing arrangements.
Cathay Pacific is giving priority to disrupted passengers first. It is therefore not taking any new reservations for flights to or from UK/Europe for departures before 10 May, to ensure any available seats are used to get move passengers disrupted by flight cancellations.
Cathay Pacific thanks passengers for their patience and understanding during these trying times.
