Fencepost Jobs open to public to meet demand
Fencepost Jobs open to public – to meet growing demand for dairy employment service
Fonterra and DairyNZ have joined forces in a project which will see Fencepost opened to full public access and enhanced as the most comprehensive job and career resource for the New Zealand dairy industry.
General Manager – Milk Supply for Fonterra, Tim Deane, says Fencepost is a vital tool used daily by many farmers in managing their businesses and the collaboration with DairyNZ had delivered a more powerful employment tool – to meet the needs of today’s farmers and those seeking jobs in the industry.
“This is about reinforcing Fencepost as the one-stop shop for dairy farm jobs. By opening the site further to include full public access and adding some new tools, we expect there to be an increase in traffic and better value for farmers.
“The real value in Fencepost, is that it gives farmers tools and resources to help them run their businesses,” Mr Deane says.
DairyNZ Strategy and Investment Leader, Mark Paine, says the nature of dairy farm employment – with large annual movements of staff and sharemilkers – means there are about 5,000 placements every year.
“Fencepost is an important part of making the employment process seamless and ultimately ensuring we connect the market of talent with the people who have the jobs. It is all about attracting the best to this industry and supporting recruiting farmers. Our aim is to make the search for the right job and the right person for that job straightforward and hassle-free for farmers,” Dr Paine says.
As part of changes to the site, Fencepost Jobs will now be open to the public, and not limited to registered Fencepost users. Features of the site include being able to place ‘situations vacant’ advertistments, find tips for attracting the right person, get interviewing advice and access templates to make recruitment easy.
Dr Paine says those looking for a job can search by category and region, place a ‘work wanted’ advertisement, find out how to create a compelling CV and get tips for starting your new job successfully.
The site also offers helpful tools, including DairyNZ’s HR and Compliance Toolkits, plus a career planning guide.
Mr Deane says the strength of Fonterra and DairyNZ working together is the capability to offer all the information and resources in one easily accessible place. “You’ll find everything from what to expect when working in the dairy industry, through to how to advertise effectively.”
“It doesn’t matter whether you’ve been involved in dairying all your life or you are simply thinking about joining the industry – you’ll be able to make use of a fantastic resource, “ says Mr Deane.
