Energy Link report prepared for MEUG
Energy Link report prepared for MEUG “Analysis of Generator Offers Jan-Mar 2010”
“MEUG is pleased to make public today an Energy Link report “Analysis of Generator Offers Jan-Mar 2010” said Ralph Matthes, Executive Director of the Major Electricity Users’ Group (MEUG).
“MEUG commissioned Energy Link because of concerns on a mismatch between lake levels and electricity spot prices since March. MEUG is publishing the report so that other parties can also consider likely recent drivers of spot prices. The drivers are complex and Energy Link’s analysis is a useful contribution to understanding those. Compared to prior years there has been a change in the offer behaviour of Meridian although determining the exact underlying driver(s) would require access to information not currently publicly available.
“MEUG submissions on the Electricity Bill that will establish the Electricity Authority recommend one of the key roles for the Authority should be to prepare more robust and timely analysis of generator offers for the purpose of improved market monitoring. The Energy Link analysis is a useful step forward in understanding behaviour of electricity market participants and development of that monitoring. MEUG welcomes any feedback on the analysis” concluded Mr Matthes.
