Gardening book recalled

Penguin Group (NZ) is recalling a gardening book from sale following allegations that parts of the book have been plagiarised.

The New Zealand Fruit Garden by Sally Cameron, which was published last week, is to be recalled from sale. A reviewer for the Taranaki Daily News, has alleged instances where material had been lifted from other sources.

Penguin is taking these allegations very seriously.

Bookshops are being asked to return all stock of the book to Penguin.

At the same time Penguin is ordering a detailed review to determine whether there is any substance to the allegations. The review will reveal whether the suggestions are accurate and what further action will be taken.

The onus lies with the author to supply the publisher with a text which is free from any copyright restriction. The formal contract between publisher and author specifically requires this.

Penguin sincerely apologises for any inconvenience this may have caused.
