Alpine Springs, Spa and Winter Park awarded Enviro-Silver Award
Alpine Springs, Spa and Winter Park, the leading tourism attraction located on the shores of Lake Tekapo, is celebrating being awarded Qualmark´s Enviro-Silver Award.
The Enviro-Silver Award means Alpine Springs is operating at one of the top levels of environmental performance as assessed in Qualmark´s Responsible Tourism Operations criteria.
Owner operator Karl Burtscher said he was "thrilled" with the award because it reflected Alpine Springs´ commitment to environmental and social responsibility.
"We are a really special commodity and we´ve really worked hard to earn our clean, green, sustainable image," he said.
"Our springs are here as a result of our sustainable and environmentally friendly engineering, as a result of which we have an energy efficiency of 1:4.
"We´re a great example of utilising energy to its fullest with great technology and sustainability.
"We abide by our clean, green image even with the smallest elements of our business, such as using the latest environmentally friendly filtering system. That means our filtering process requires no substances that leave any toxic residue to deal with.
"In addition, our water cleansing agents enable us to use minimal chlorine to maintain fresh, clear and safe spring water for bathers," he said.
Mr Burtscher is proud to be recognized by Qualmark and will continue to actively participate in his clean, green initiatives. "We really pride ourselves on going beyond the `minimum requirements´ to contribute to a sustainable future, and our ongoing Alpine Springs strategy is interwoven with sustainable initiatives," he said.
More about Alpine Springs/Spa and Winter Park Alpine Springs has three hot pools shaped in the configuration of the local glacier lakes, Pukaki, Ohau and Tekapo. The pools are fed by underground spring water and are nestled amongst New Zealand natives typical of the local alpine area, and terraced to provide majestic views of the surrounding Southern Alps and Lake Tekapo. Pathways from changing rooms to bathing areas are heated for maximum guest comfort.
The boutique day spa is a peaceful haven within the complex which has views over the pools and out to Lake Tekapo. It encompasses four treatment rooms and offers a full range of treatments including massage, hot rock massage, reflexology, facials, body wraps, manicures, and pedicures. The main complex also features a large sauna, steam room and plunge pool.
The international size outdoor ice rink operates over winter months and is a stunning setting for skating, ice hockey and curling.
