Top sales performers spotlight diversity

Top sales performers spotlight nationwide diversity in the property markets

Real estate sales consultants from Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch have been named as the market leaders in their respective fields by Bayleys Real Estate in the company’s annual Top Achiever awards.

The rankings - which track individual sales people’s transactions over the 2009/2010 financial year – reflect Bayleys’ breadth across New Zealand.

Top residential sales person was Gary Wallace of Auckland – who specialises in multi-million dollar homes in the upmarket suburbs of Parnell and Remuera.

Top commercial and industrial sales person was Mark Hourigan from Wellington – who specialises in $1million+ premises, ranging from CBD office towers through to large manufacturing and production factories.

Top country sales person was Chris Jones from Christchurch – whose network of lifestyle and development property buyers and sellers stretches across the Canterbury Plains.

Gary Wallace also took out the overall honour of being Bayleys’ top sales person for the 2009/2010 year – successfully handling some $56.6million worth of residential property sales.

Bayleys Real Estate managing director Mike Bayley said the Top Achiever awards reflected that even in tough economic climates, motivated and experienced professionals would continue to shine.

“There is no doubting that 2009 was a tough year for real estate, as it was for most businesses – not only in New Zealand but also around the world. Those real estate sales personnel such as Gary Wallace, Mark Hourigan and Chris Jones who adapted their mind-sets and practices accordingly, actually had stellar years,” Mr Bayley said.

Mr Bayley said it was interesting to note that in the space of 12 months, the real estate market had seen a complete turn-around in the fortunes of both New Zealand’s top-end residential property sector, and the rural niche. This had been mirrored in the Bayleys awards.

“A year ago, our top overall sales person came from the rural sector, while the high-end residential market was flat-lining. Those two sectors have now been completely transposed – reflecting that the residential sector began its resurgence in the middle part of 2009 and is now on a fluctuating recovery path, while the farming sector still has some way to go before it recovers from falls seen since the early to middle stages of last year,” he said.

Bayleys Top Achievers trio will be officially acknowledged in front of their industry peers at the company’s annual conference and gala ball being held in Auckland in July.
