Agency picks up NZ’s only Clio
Awards with a gold, silver and two
bronzes
Colenso BBDO has picked up New Zealand’s only Clio Awards, taking home a gold, silver and two bronze Clios at the 51st Annual Clio Awards held on the 26 and 27 May in New York City.
Its animated film Going West, produced for The New Zealand Book Council to promote books and reading has won a Gold (TV Technique Animation), Silver (TV Technique Sound Design) and Bronze (TV Public Service Single). In addition, the agency’s ‘Bleeding Billboard’ for the Papakura District Council was awarded a bronze CLIO (Billboard Public Service Single).
The CLIO Awards is one of the world’s most prestigious international advertising and design competitions, honouring creative excellence and innovation in the industry.
“The result is a wonderful achievement for the agency and we are very proud because it is never an easy task to win at the top international award shows,” says Colenso BBDO Managing Director Nick Garrett. “It also proves that the best locally produced work will gain the recognition and respect it deserves from our peers around the world, which is a great thing for the New Zealand industry.”
‘Going West’ was the result of eight months’ work by Colenso BBDO and London’s Andersen M Studios, and uses hand cut ‘pop up’ scenery to bring to life an excerpt from the Maurice Gee novel.
Colenso’s Executive Creative Director Nick Worthington says it is always great to take out a top international award from New Zealand.
“It was great to see the Going West
film, which brought to life a classic piece of New Zealand
literature, gain such huge global traction on-line, becoming
a YouTube hit and reaching the worldwide top 10 in the viral
video charts. It was viewed online more than 788,000 times,
inspired more than 3400 tweets on Twitter or blog posts
worldwide, and reached number 8 in the Viral Video Chart
compiled by Unruly Media.”
These latest awards for
‘Going West’ follow its two golds in the 2010
AXIS Awards and the Grand Prize from the New York Museum of
Art and Design’s Moving Paper festival.
The
Bronze Clio for ‘Bleeding Billboard’ comes on top
of recognition at Show, Award, Cannes and
Axis.
