SMX partners with Fujitsu New Zealand
SMX partners with Fujitsu New Zealand for cloud-based email security service
New Zealand cloud email security company SMX has signed Fujitsu New Zealand as a local reseller. The partnership will see Fujitsu offer the SMX anti-spam and anti-virus service as part of its managed services offering for New Zealand customers.
SMX managing director Jesse Ball said the Fujitsu New Zealand agreement demonstrates a growing acceptance of SMX among top tier IT services companies.
“Cloud offerings are quickly gaining traction in New Zealand and it is great to be partnered locally with a global leader such as Fujitsu. The partnership further validates the strategic work we’ve done in making the SMX service fast and easy for companies to slot into their wider offerings. It also shows the importance of being able to filter mail ‘in country’. Competing services route customer emails through offshore datacenters, whereas our strategy is to use local datacenters with local support. That’s proving to be a powerful differentiator for us internationally as well,” Jesse Ball said.
He said the Fujitsu agreement was part of continued strong growth for SMX in 2010, with high demand in New Zealand being matched by strong international growth, particularly in Australia and India.
In describing SMX’s offering Jesse Ball said, “The SMX service is a great illustration of the benefits of cloud computing. Rather than owning and operating their own spam and virus filtering software in house, customers can subscribe on a per-seat basis to have it all done for them - before it hits their network - saving bandwidth, administrative hassles and other drains on productivity.”
Fujitsu New Zealand managing director, Stuart Stitt, said that Fujitsu will incorporate the SMX service into its current range of services for customers, enhancing Fujitsu’s managed services portfolio in New Zealand.

New Zealand in 2006, the SMX service pioneered the concept
of filtering emails for spam and viruses 'in the cloud' as a
service rather than via a software product installed inside
user networks.

Launched in February 2006, SMX is a privately-owned secure email software development and services company. Based in Auckland, New Zealand, SMX co-founders Jesse Ball and Thom Hooker lead a sales and development team focused on local and international sales through reseller and licence agreements.
The SMX business model is for customers to be charged a monthly fee, based on the number of users within each customer business. Spam and viruses are cleaned before they reach customer networks with savings in network bandwidth frequently being more than the monthly cost of the service.

SMX has a blue chip list of local customers including the Automobile Association, the Accident Compensation Corporation, Harcourts, Christchurch Polytechnic, The Foundation for Research Science and Technology and a number of local government and council organisations.
During 2008 SMX signed an important
reseller agreement with India’s largest IT services
company, CMC – a subsidiary of the giant Tata Group. CMC
now has two data centres up and running to host the SMX
service. In early 2010 SMX made its first sale into Japan
and launched into Australia, following the opening of an SMX
data centre in Melbourne and the signing of a head
distributor agreement with Westcon Group, one of
Australia’s largest IT distributors.
