Climate change workshops for rural professionals
Climate change workshops for rural professionals
DairyNZ is leading a MAF-funded project to run a nationwide series of free workshops for farm advisors on climate change issues and land management practices across the country.
The workshops focus on providing rural professionals with an introduction to climate change issues, greenhouse gases and the Emission Trading Scheme (ETS) so they can advise their clients how to mitigate their emissions and adapt to a changing climate.
There will be discussions on greenhouse gases and how farmer clients could mitigate these to reduce their liability under the ETS. Case studies covering different farming systems including dairy, sheep and beef and horticulture will focus on their impacts on profitability and greenhouse gas emissions. These will be presented together with a œtake-home resource kit that will act as valuable source of reference.
The project members consist of representatives from sheep and beef, horticultural and fertiliser industries as well as Crown Research Institutions.
Rural professionals including fertiliser & seed reps, bankers, extension personnel, regional councils and farm consultants are encouraged to attend these free workshops.
These workshops will be run in Northland, Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Hawkes Bay, Taranaki, Manawatu, Canterbury, Nelson and Southland. Starting time is 3.30 pm till 6.30 pm with a light snack provided.
Registration is essential but the cost for attending the workshops is free. To register online go to www.dairynz.co.nz/climatechange
