Newmarket organises “White Out” in support of All Whites

The country’s leading shopping district Newmarket is whiting itself out in support of the All Whites football team ahead of their third game at the 2010 FIFA World Cup, 2am Friday morning NZT.

“We’re challenging other business areas to get in behind the All Whites by whiting out their windows or decorating their offices. Fifteen years ago we all put on red socks to help the late Sir Peter Blake win the America’s Cup. We’re now asking people to go all white to show their support for our greatest football team ever,” says Cameron Brewer, chief executive of the Newmarket Business Association.

Over 100 Newmarket businesses have already committed to whiting out their shops and offices over the next 48 hours.

“The response we’ve had from people has been really supportive. We’ve got designer fashion stores dressing up their windows, banks dressing their staff in white, offices stringing up trendy white washing on their balconies, cafes selling white cupcakes, and bars dreaming up white cocktails,” says organiser Lea Worth, marketing manager of the Newmarket Business Association.

“Newmarket Primary School pupils are ditching their uniforms tomorrow and wearing white. Everyone’s very enthusiastic and getting very creative and that’s to be encouraged. Any Kiwi who wants to get involved can do so very easily and it doesn’t need to cost a cent. It's the very least we can do and the All Whites will love it I’m sure,” says Cameron Brewer.
