NZ’s Favourite Beer Breaks Billboard Tradition
Tui, New Zealand’s favourite beer brand, has broken a 16-year-long tradition by changing the look of its trademark ‘Yeah Right’ billboards to celebrate the All Whites incredible feat at the FIFA World Cup.
The iconic billboards have always used a black background on the left side with a topical and humour message matched by ‘Yeah Right’ with an orange background on the right.
But today the brand is erecting billboards with a white background on the left matched with the comment, “78th in the world – Yeah Right”.
Tui marketing manager, Jarrod Bear, says the brand felt the All Whites incredible feat was worthy of the one-off ‘white’ billboard which is going up around the country.
“The Yeah Right’s are an icon of New Zealand, bringing smiles to the faces of Kiwi’s since the first billboard went up way back in 1994. While the witty commentary, reflecting the voice of the nation has been key, the ‘Yeah Right’ format has been sacred. This has not changed. However, with the amazing performance in the past couple of months, of New Zealand’s best football players on the globe’s biggest stage, the sacred rules of the Yeah Right format have been broken to reflect the nation’s pride in them and to toast their achievements.”
The billboards will remain up for the next week and follows the earlier All Whites themed billboard, “Australasia 1, Slovakia 1 – Yeah Right”.
