Teen ‘stars in the making’ sought for Queenstown study scholarship
A nationwide search is on for future hospitality and adventure tourism stars keen to win a $25,000 scholarship and the chance to study in Queenstown.
Queenstown Resort College is calling for Year 13 high school students from around New Zealand to apply for either a Diploma of Hospitality Management Scholarship or a Diploma of Adventure Tourism Management Scholarship.
Two $25,000 scholarships, one for each diploma, will be awarded to the most promising young students and will cover full tuition fees for the duration of each two-year programme.
Applicants will undergo a rigorous selection process which will result in the five most outstanding students in each category coming to Queenstown for a final assessment.
Part of the assessment will include a 40-minute panel interview with QRC’s Head of School and two industry representatives.
QRC CEO Charlie Phillips says the college is looking for teenagers who demonstrate excellent leadership skills, a strong academic background, professional attitude and who are committed to furthering their careers in their chosen industry.
“We launched our hospitality and adventure tourism scholarships in 2006 and have been absolutely delighted so far with the calibre of students who have applied.
“The aim of our scholarships is to identify Kiwi teenagers who deserve the opportunity of a world-class education and who will become outstanding ambassadors for the college.
“Our scholarship graduates are living proof of what we’re trying to achieve with our scholarships – they are now either rising stars in their chosen industry or have gone on to complete their degree.”
Applications for the two scholarships close on Friday 27 August and the winners will be announced on Monday 4 October.
