Richard Stone has been appointed the inaugural President of the newly created Wellington Employers' Chamber of Commerce.
Mr Stone has had 25 years leading management consultant businesses and has been involved in consulting and governance roles with a range of organisations. He is a former Executive Chairman of PowerHouse People Ltd and Deputy Chair of UNICEF New Zealand. He is also a former Vice-President of the Wellington Regional Chamber of Commerce.
The Wellington Employers Chamber of Commerce (WECC) is the Wellington city presence of the Employers’ Chamber of Commerce Central (ECCC), formed from the recent merger of the Employers and Manufacturers Association (Central) and the Wellington Regional Chamber of Commerce.
In making the announcement, Employers Chamber Central president Jo Bransgrove said that Mr Stone would bring strong communication and leadership skills to the role.
“Mr Stone will be a passionate advocate for Wellington business. He has a sound, pragmatic appreciation of the issues, challenges and opportunities of the city, as well as an outstanding network of contacts across Wellington business and government sectors,” said Ms Bransgrove.
The Wellington Employers’ Chamber of Commerce is the biggest business network in town. As the voice of Wellington business, it lobbies specifically on issues impacting on local businesses and the Wellington economy as well as providing networking opportunities for its members.
“I look forward to working more closely with the city’s businesses and leaders to improve the local business environment and help to make Wellington an even better place,” said Mr Stone.
