Press Release From Rockburn Wines Monday 16th August 2010
Rockburn Wins Award for Top Pinot Noir And Trophy for Wine of the Show
The latest vintage of Rockburn Wines’ Pinot Noir has continued a proud tradition of success for the company. Rockburn 2009 Pinot Noir has won the Award for Best Pinot Noir and the Trophy for Wine of Show at the Association of Australian Boutique Winemakers Awards. The trophy was presented to Rockburn Wines at a black tie dinner at the Four Seasons Hotel in Sydney on Friday night.
The Boutique Wines Awards are open to Australian and New Zealand independently owned wineries producing less than 250 tonnes of grapes. Over 1100 wines were entered into the competition.
Chairman of Judges, Huon Hooke, praised the high standard of Pinot Noirs in this year’s event.
Rockburn’s winemaker, Malcolm Rees-Francis, commented. “We are thrilled to have received such an outstanding accolade for our 2009 Pinot Noir, against some evidently fierce competition. Certainly this award once again places Central Otago at the forefront of great Pinot Noir regions, which was exemplified by the ‘
09 vintage; a classic for Central Otago with excellent concentration and character evident in the wines. The Rockburn ‘09 Pinot is already showing great complexity, poise and grace and it can only improve with age.”
Rockburn Pinot Noir is a blend of fruit from it’s two vineyard sites at Gibbston and Parkburn in Central Otago.
Over the previous ten years, Rockburn have consistently won Gold Medals and Trophies for their Pinot Noirs including the Trophy for Champion Pinot Noir at the 2008 Air New Zealand Awards.
The Rockburn 2009 Pinot Noir has already been awarded Best Pinot Noir Trophy at the Shanghai International Wine Challenge 2010.
Rockburn will be releasing it’s 2009 Pinot Noir for sale in New Zealand in October.
