Pacific Blue’s Withdrawal is
Disappointing
The Wellington Employers' Chamber of Commerce is disappointed that Pacific Blue will be exiting its New Zealand domestic operations and not introducing a trans-Tasman service out of Wellington.
“Pacific Blue has made a significant contribution to domestic aviation since commencing flying on domestic routes in 2007 and it will be missed,” said Chamber President Richard Stone.
“Good transportation networks, including air links, are crucial to the growth of the Wellington economy.
“Pacific Blue’s departure will reduce the options for flying into and out of the city and is likely to have a detrimental impact on airfares.
“We are also disappointed that Wellington is not included in the new Trans-Tasman services as part of the first phase of Pacific Blue’s network review.
“We hope that the airline will consider Wellington in future reviews as the region’s potential is realised or that another airline steps in and fills the gap.
“We look forward to discussions with the airline over its intentions shortly.
“Competition on air routes is the best way to deliver cost effective customer services and is also ultimately in the best interests of the airlines,” Mr Stone concluded.
