Impac gets NEBOSH accreditation
Impac becomes first training provider in
the Southern Hemisphereto achieve accreditation for NEBOSH
International Diploma in Occupational Safety and
Health
Impac, New Zealand’s leading provider of
risk and safety management solutions, today announced that
it has achieved accreditation by NEBOSH to deliver the
prestigious International Diploma in Occupational Safety and
Health. It becomes the first provider in the Southern
hemisphere to achieve this status and builds on Impac’s
success in launching the International Certificate into New
Zealand in 2008.
Mike Cosman, Managing Director, Impac said, “This is a huge milestone in offering practitioners working in these challenging fields a real alternative way of achieving a globally recognised, degree-level, professional qualification in New Zealand without years of private study.”
The Diploma course comprises 6 weeks of intensive tuition coupled with an equivalent amount of off-course work and an 8000 word dissertation. Passing the Diploma is one way of achieving recognition as a Chartered Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), the largest professional body in the world for OSH specialists. All of the Impac staff involved in delivering the Diploma course have extensive practical experience and provide an international best practice perspective on the issues and challenges facing today’s safety practitioners.
NEBOSH is the leading qualification issuing body in the world for health, safety, risk and environmental specialists with over 30,000 candidates a year sitting its exams. The Diploma course is their highest qualification, having been independently assessed at Honours Degree level.
Mike Cosman added, “At a time when business leaders and Ministers are demanding higher standards of health and safety in our workplaces to address our current poor performance, engaging someone with a higher level qualification is essential to ensure the advice you receive is of the highest standard, relevant and up to date. A move towards recognised professional standards in OHS is something the Department of Labour and industry have been calling for for some time. At long last this is now within the reach of most people and can be readily accommodated alongside other work commitments thanks to the innovative way we are scheduling the course.”
Alan Clifford, Senior Trainer, Impac said, “We are launching the course in New Zealand but see real opportunities to take it overseas or to bring candidates in from Australia and beyond. As an international qualification it is particularly of interest to global companies and those in high risk industries such as mining or oil and gas.”
