Deloitte Centre Awarded Excellence In Construction
Auckland, New Zealand, 25 August 2010:
Deloitte Centre Awarded Excellence In Construction
The Deloitte Centre at 80 Queen Street, Auckland is one of the first buildings to achieve ‘5 Green Star – Office Built’ certified by the New Zealand Green Building Council (NZGBC). Only five other building projects have achieved this standard.
The Deloitte Centre; a 21 level, 23,000sqm premium-grade office tower; developed, built, owned and managed by Brookfield Multiplex and tenanted by BNZ, exceeded building expectations and achieved even more points in the ‘Built’ certification than in the ‘Design’ certification.
Tim Pope, Managing Director of Brookfield Multiplex Construction (NZ) Limited, said that the Deloitte Centre has been a huge success for all stakeholders.
“The iconic location, historic significance and scale of the building – occupying an entire city block - demanded something very special,” said Pope. “Brookfield Multiplex was pleased to be able to work with such a proactive and visionary partner as BNZ to be able to leave a mark on the city that will successfully and sustainably serve future generations of Aucklanders,” he said.
Pope says that the project was also groundbreaking as it was the first in New Zealand to look for the highest level of sustainability certification.
“Design of the Deloitte Centre commenced prior to the Green Star – Office Design rating tool being developed and this was the most significant challenge for the project team in achieving the Design and As-Built rating. It was an opportunity for us to draw on our extensive knowledge in delivering unique integrated fit-outs for our clients, ensuring that we accomplished the successful achievement of the Built rating.”
Key to this exceptional achievement has been the detailed co-ordination between the tenants, builder and developer guaranteeing a seamless integration between the initial building design and the final integrated tenant fit-out.
The 5 Green Star - Office Built Certified Rating from the NZGBC acknowledges ‘New Zealand Excellence’ in the completed construction of the project.
Alex Cutler, Chief Executive of the New Zealand Green Building Council says: “The 5 Green Star certification of the Deloitte Centre is a tremendous example of what can be achieved when the promise of the design is delivered in the construction.
“Brookfield Multiplex made a number of smart sustainable choices both during construction and taking into account the building's operational life time. For example they diverted 96% of the construction waste away from landfill during demolition and installed a rainwater harvesting system to save on energy once tenanted,” says Cutler.
“The developers have ensured this Auckland landmark will be a building others will aspire to replicate and we congratulate them for that."
Brookfield Multiplex remains an industry leader in creating buildings that have the future in mind for clients, tenants and the environment. “Clients choose Brookfield Multiplex because we offer commitment; capacity and certainty,” said Pope. “We have the resources and depth of experience to deliver complex projects.”
“The key to this lies in the willingness to develop long term, rewarding partnerships with building occupiers and owners,” he said.
