New Vehicle Sales Back on Track
New Vehicle Sales Back on Track
Just released August registration data shows the new vehicle sector is back on track with total industry sales up more than 17% on August 2009.
Breaking the market down there were 4,720 passenger cars and 1,717 commercial vehicles. “We are very happy with these numbers”, said Mr Kerr Chief Executive Officer of the Motor Industry Association. Passenger car registrations were just under 7% higher than the same month in 2009 and year to date tracking a very healthy 13.7% ahead of 2009. In the month commercial registrations were the stand out being a massive 60% ahead of August 2009. Mr Kerr however cautioned not to read too much into this increase noting that registrations in August 2009 (1,076) was one of the lowest recorded. Year to date commercial registrations are 16% ahead of 2009.
“This volume could be even higher but members are being constrained by a lack of stock in some areas”, said Mr Kerr.
On the overall total market Toyota was in top spot with 1,104 registrations followed by Ford with 790 and Mazda third with 604 registrations. These placings were repeated in the passenger car segment with Toyota selling 686 vehicles, Ford 516 and Mazda 480 vehicles. Commercial vehicle registrations had Toyota leading with 418, Ford second with 274 and Nissan third with 242.
Top selling passenger car of the month was the Toyota Corolla with 224 registrations, followed by the Suzuki Swift with 208 registrations and the Mazda6 in third place with 177 registrations. Although a commercial vehicle, the Toyota Hilux was in fact the best selling model for the month with 247 registrations. Other commercial models to feature in the top three were the Nissan Navara (218) and the Ford Ranger (181).
