Bunnings New Zealand Presents $101,000 to Canterbury Earthquake Relief
Bunnings New Zealand has showed its support for the residents of Canterbury, raising over $101,000 to be shared between the Red Cross and other local community projects for those who have been affected by the Canterbury Earthquake.
A weekend sausage sizzle fundraiser collected $30,500 in customer donations and has been matched dollar-for-dollar by Bunnings New Zealand for a grand total of $61,000.
The amount will be presented to the New Zealand Red Cross Earthquake Appeal later this month.
Bunnings New Zealand General Manager Rod Caust also announced a commitment of a further $40,000 in direct community projects to support the recovery efforts in the local areas around Riccarton and Shirley, the two Bunnings Warehouse stores in Christchurch. These projects will be completed over the next 12 months.
This is in addition to the emergency products that were given to Civil Defence and other disaster relief teams immediately in the wake of the earthquake; bringing the total contribution from Bunnings New Zealand to over $101,000.
“I am very proud of the combined efforts of our stores and customers,” said Mr Caust.
“The donation we have been able to make demonstrates the willingness of all involved to reach out and assist. Our Bunnings team members were determined to help as many people affected by the earthquake as possible and we are very pleased to be able to offer this contribution.”
“I would personally like to thank all of our customers and team members who helped us to assist those people in need.”
