2010 EECA Awards finalists announced
New Zealand’s most innovative energy-saving and renewable energy projects have been revealed, with the 2010 EECA Awards finalists announced today.
The EECA Awards celebrate organisations and individuals who have demonstrated excellence and innovation in energy efficiency or renewable energy. This year, nearly 100 entries were received across the nine categories. Entrants ranged from small businesses to large corporates to outstanding invididuals, spanning public and private sectors and community-based organisations.
“How we generate and use energy is one of the most critical issues of our time and essential to our economic and environmental wellbeing. The EECA Awards provide vital recognition to those people and organisations who are trailblazers in their approach to energy.
”It’s very exciting to see the ingenuity and imagination of entrants across New Zealand who are tackling energy use head on. They’re making a difference in the community, to business, to the environment, to the economy and importantly, to our national understanding of energy. This benefits all of us,” said Mike Underhill, EECA Chief Executive.
The finalists include:
- an Otago organisation turning used cooking oil into biodiesel for Queenstown businesses
- an online company which matches empty trucks with freight throughout New Zealand to increase efficiency
- a pig farm using biogas to generate electricity;
- a city council utilising energy efficient technologies and renewable energy sources in its building development.
Winners will be revealed on Thursday 25 November 2010 at an awards ceremony in Auckland. The event is hosted by EECA with support from our three principal sponsors Fujitsu General NZ Limited, Schneider Electric and Eco Insulation.
