Christchurch Airport wins awards at airport conference

At the New Zealand Airports Association conference held in Queenstown on Friday last week, Christchurch International Airport Limited (CIAL) was given two awards, including Airport Personality of the Year for CEO Jim Boult.

“This is wonderful recognition from the industry for our Chief Executive,” said CIAL General Manager Marketing and Business Development, Gareth Owen. “Jim has great management ability, he understands the industry really well, he’s a great networker, and under him numerous airport projects have progressed significantly. People are proud to work at the airport and we all share in the vision of being the best airport in New Zealand.”

CIAL and Fulton Hogan won Project of the Year for their airfield pavement maintenance work. The airport company’s runway maintenance programme uses recycled asphalt and Fulton Hogan’s CoolPave with LEA™ (low emissions asphalt) as a key part of its environmental sustainability initiative.

“This project has so many positives,” said CIAL General Manager Operations and Infrastructure Andy Lester. “It’s a positive collaboration between CIAL and Fulton Hogan, it’s positive environmentally, and it’s positive financially. It demonstrates how what’s good for the environment can also be good for the financial bottom line, and is an example of true partnership. We’re delighted with the award and look forward to doing more such work with Fulton Hogan at the airport.”

CIAL was the first airport company in the southern hemisphere to achieve carbon neutral status. CIAL are currently completing the audit requirements which will enable recertification of its carboNZero™ rank by Landcare Research for the fourth year in a row.
