New Zealand Law Society welcomes dialogue with ADLS Inc
The differences between the groups appears to be close to resolution
LawFuel.co.nz – NZ Legal Jobs & Newswire - New Zealand Law Society President Jonathan Temm says ongoing discussions with the Auckland District Law Society Inc have considered how the two organisations might work to combine their Auckland operations.
Mr Temm says both groups recognise that the interests of the New Zealand legal profession will best be advanced by a single strong and unified organisation in Auckland which would be achieved by ADLS Inc combining with the New Zealand Law Society.
“Criticism over the past year of the performance of a number of lawyers has had an impact on the whole profession,” he says. “It is vital that New Zealand’s lawyers are able to work together without division on ways to improve overall professional standards and to demonstrate how well our country is served by its legal profession.”
Mr Temm says he, with NZLS Chief Executive Christine Grice and NZLS Auckland branch President Chris Moore, have met a number of times with ADLS Inc President Anna Fitzgibbon and Vice-President Sue Styants. More recently they have met with the whole ADLS Inc Council.
“These meetings have been conducted in a very positive manner, and we have had valuable discussions on how the combination could work to benefit everyone,” he says.
