Sustainable 60 finalists announced
What do a large manufacturing company, a hotel chain and a boutique coffin maker have in common? They are among the finalists in this year’s Sustainable 60 Awards.
Sponsored by HSBC and Ricoh, the awards reward businesses for their commitment to sustainability. The categories include strategy and governance, workplace, marketplace environment and community.
“They recognise companies who practice sustainability in any aspect of their business, from supply chain through to customers,” says Julie Gill, general manager of Fairfax Media Business Group, which initiated the awards in conjunction with PricewaterhouseCoopers.
“Becoming a truly sustainable company is a journey and it can take some time. We believe true sustainability is vital to deal with the challenges of today’s business environment and the demands of customers across the globe,” she says.
Those entering completed a comprehensive submission outlining their vision for business sustainability, which underwent a robust, three-stage judging process.
Entrants gained a unique opportunity to measure their performance and set objectives in the area of sustainability. An independent judging process reviewed, measured, validated and provided feedback to each business on achievements against set objectives.
“This year's finalists all demonstrated a strong understanding of how sustainable business practice supported their business achieve core objectives. They had integrated sustainable business practice in multiple areas of their business and many had innovative, new approaches to addressing key strategic issues,” says Julia Hoare, PricewaterhouseCoopers partner.
The awards are part of the Sustainable 60 programme, which focuses on showcasing the progress of companies on their journey to sustainability, rewarding those that have made significant achievements, sharing their stories and celebrating excellence.
Category winners and overall winners will be announced at a cocktail function in Auckland on 1st December 2010.
