Tuatara Brewery improves Fast 50 ranking

Tuatara Brewery improves Fast 50 ranking
Tuatara Brewing Company
28 October 2010

Wellington’s award-winning Tuatara Brewing Company has jumped four
places in the prestigious 2010 Deloitte Fast 50 list. Last night,
Tuatara was named as the 34th fastest growing business in New Zealand
with an annual revenue growth rate of 248.40%. In 2009, the company
was ranked 39th.

Director Sean Murrie says he is delighted by the result which he
believes reflects Tuatara’s dedication to maintaining quality even
while growing the business rapidly. “This is our tenth year in
operation and it has been a big one for the company. We have worked
hard to expand our brewery in Waikanae, bought on a logistics partner
to improve our distribution, boosted our sales team and even started
exporting. At the same time, the focus has been on keeping beer
quality up as evidenced by our medal hauls at the 2010 BrewNZ Beer
Awards and Australian International Beer Awards,” he says.

It is notable that Tuatara Brewing Company is one of only fifteen
businesses to have appeared on the Deloitte Fast 50 list before and
that the brewery’s revenue growth actually increased from 188.48% in
2009 to 248.40% in 2010. “We are delighted to be one of the companies
showing consistent, sustainable growth. It is a credit to the whole
team at Tuatara that we have improved on last year’s outstanding
results. We’d particularly like to thank all our customers for their
on-going support,” Sean says.

The Tuatara range comprises of the quenching Tuatara Hefe,
easy-drinking Tuatara Helles, crisp Tuatara Pilsner, juicy Tuatara
India Pale Ale, decadent Tuatara Porter, boisterous Tuatara Ardennes
and the hugely hoppy Tuatara American Pale Ale.

Deloitte partner Matt McKendry says this year's index has proved yet
again that successful businesses make the Fast 50 because they do the
basics extremely well. "We've identified over the 10 years of the
Deloitte Fast 50 that the most successful companies are those which
remain firmly focused on the business strategy and vision, and what
they need to do to achieve it, without being distracted by external
factors. Consistent growth, even through recession, comes from paying
attention to basic principles," Mr McKendry says.

Entry to the Deloitte Fast 50 was open to New Zealand registered
businesses operating for at least three years who had operating
revenue of at least $300,000 in 2007/2008.
