Golden Opportunity for NZ Horticulture
Rowing World Championships Golden Opportunity for NZ
Horticulture
The country’s leading fresh produce
company, Turners and Growers says major sporting events like
the World Rowing Championships are more than just a chance
for New Zealand to win gold on the water, they’re a golden
opportunity to win new global customers for New Zealand’s
fresh produce.
Turners and Growers is a major
sponsor of the World Rowing Championships that will see over
800 athletes from more than 50 countries and thousands of
spectators at Lake Karapiro over the next week.
One
of the major logistical challenges for an event of this
scale is catering for both athletes and visitors and
Managing Director, Jeff Wesley says they will be eating New
Zealand’s best fruit and vegetables as part of the
company’s deal as the exclusive supplier of fresh produce
to the Rowing World Championships.
“The future
we’re building for New Zealand horticultural products is
to be suppliers of choice to the top end of the
international markets. That means selling our fruit and
vegetables as the fuel for healthy lifestyles and building
relationships with elite sports and events give us an
excellent platform connect with global
consumers.
“For World Rowing Championship
organizers the highest quality food was vital for both
athletes and visitors. We see this as an excellent
opportunity to showcase local produce by ‘fuelling’ the
World Rowing Championships.”
The company already
has significant sponsorship relationships with elite
sporting events like the Taupo Ironman and the Auckland
Wellington and Christchurch Marathons, but Jeff Wesley says
the World Rowing Championships event supply deal is on a
scale never undertaken before by the company with a
significant amount of fresh produce being supplied to event
caterers.
Turners and Growers is also using the
event to highlight the nutritional properties of New Zealand
grown Jazz Apples, Sunfirst Lemon, Limes, oranges,
Tangelo’s and grapefruit from Kerikeri and Beekist
Tomatoes from Pukekohe along with New Zealand’s favourite
Bonita Bananas.
“Our consumers here and around
the world want to know the origin of their food, how its
grown and the benefits it has for them. We’ve got a
large presence at the event itself where visitors can taste
our fresh fruit and hear its story. We’re focusing on
the specific nutritional benefits of each product for
athletes and healthy lifestyles.”
“We’re also
partnering with local Cambridge Artisan Bread and Pastry
company, Zingara who are featuring our fresh New Zealand
strawberries in a range of products like fruit tarts and
meringues with berries.”
The partnership with
Zingara is part of what we’re doing here and
internationally working with chefs, restaurants and
companies creating delicious food with top quality New
Zealand fresh ingredients.
The World Rowing
Championships run from October 30 to November 7
2010.
