New Zealand Kicks Off Global Entrepreneurship Week

New Zealand will be the first of 100 countries to launch Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) this Monday.

TradeMe founder Sam Morgan, along with New Zealand Entrepreneur of the Year and Jucy Rentals CEO Tim Alpe and Hamilton ’s business incubator Soda Inc. CEO Cheryl Reynolds will be participating in a launch event at Wintec in Hamilton .

“ Hamilton and the Waikato region are big contributors to the New Zealand economy and there is a lot of growth in the area of new business, with a lot of innovation and creativity used. Therefore Hamilton is the perfect place to launch Global Entrepreneurship Week in New Zealand and globally,” said GEW NZ Chair Rob Acton.

GEW is a celebration of innovation, entrepreneurship and creativity. The global event brings together millions of people across the world through online and global activities to encourage them to think innovatively and unleash their ideas.

Thousand of events are run for GEW – creating mass participation and exposing people of all ages to quality entrepreneurial experiences.
As part of a global movement, GEW NZ aims to change business cultures to encourage creative thinking to stimulate economic development for the prosperity of all New Zealanders.

“It’s about developing people’s enterprise skills, confidence, and making them realise their ambitions,” said Mr Acton.
Within New Zealand interest has come from all quarters – business, Ministers, local councils, schools, tertiary organisations and students.
